I have a two year old Sony PCG-K23, it has been having some problems lately. Over the summer some of the keys stopped working on the keyboard - no problem I figure, I will go buy a USB keyboard and deal with it. That had been working fine.
I noticed the fan was almost constantly running on it, even if it was just sitting idle - checked CPU / Memory usage and they would be low. Not sure why the fan was running, but oh well.
Now I have a real problem..
I was using it earlier today and the screen started to cycle in brightness, as a Sony does when you disconnect the AC power source. The AC power source was cycling, although the LED light on the AC adapter was not cycling and other things plugged into the surge protector were working fine. I tried changing plugs and outlets, no luck. The LED on the notebook indicating it is plugged into an AC adapter was cycling as well as the screen.
So I unplug the AC adapter, and the
battery drains from a full charge to dead in about 20 minutes. I shutdown the computer, plug the AC adapter back in and lo and behold the power LED on the notebook will not even turn on. I try starting it up and it makes it about 10 seconds into the boot process and it shuts down. I try repeating, and the same result.
I have tried reseating the RAM - nothing.
I have tried starting without a battery - nothing.
I have tried starting off of battery power - nothing (battery is drained)
The fact the power LED isn't even coming on leads me to believe it is a problem with the AC jack on the computer or the power supply - does that sound right? And if so, how much would I expect to be spending to get that fixed? Any chance of doing that myself?
Thanks,
Josh
