I know this is similar to various threads already in the forum, but my issue is ever-so-slightly different.
I had an old Dell desktop (bought circa 2002) with Windows XP (2005), which one day refused to start up. Dell tech support had me mess around in some DOS-looking stuff and determined that the motherboard was fried and the HD was on its last legs.
I've removed the HD and placed it in an Adaptec external case. I'm able to hook it up to my new Dell Inspiron. It recognizes the drive and opens in My Computer, but after a few clicks the whole PC freezes. I'm rarely able to copy a single file from it before everything stops.
What to do now?
