Hi, for some reason my G4 will no longer accept DVD's, burned or commercial. I put them in, it spins, and then ejects them. (It does happen on occasion that it will read the DVD like nothing is wrong though)

I've gone to my root admin, tried to change permissions. I've reset my PRAM, still nothing.

The interesting thing, is that if I put a DVD in while the machine is on, it spits it back out, including my Mac OS install DVD. However, when I choose to boot from that DVD it has no problem reading it. I can even restart afterward and login, and there's the Install DVD sitting on my desktop fully accessable.

Now, if I eject it, and then put it back in, the computer will no longer read it...

Any suggestions?

ive heard the mac drives wear out and only read certain discs after a while
