I have an HP dv5130us laptop that will not start windows because the is a missing or corrupt file in the windows file. The recovery repair will not work, so I will probably have to format and reinstall which means I will loose all my data that has not been backed up.

Herein lies the problem. On all my other computers, laptops and desktops, I can put the hard drive in an enclosure and plug it into the USB port on another machine and extract the files I need. But with the HP laptop hard drive all I get is the unused portion of the drive and the HP RECOVERY PARTITION.

Does anyone know how to open this or to get the drive to show all the files on it or is this one of those cute things that HP does to their computers??????????

If your files are on a NTFS partition then that MAY be the prob. It'll require another drive using NTFS just to "see" it.
