I thought that a P4 needed a single stick or pairs of memory, in other words, no odd numbers except for one. If that's the case, then why does my motherboard have 3 memory slots (DIMM)? Can someone tell me why this is? Thank you.

You do not need to have pairs of memory sticks in the motherboard, depending on the MB you can have 3 different sizes of memory sticks on your board.
Look up the specs on your MB and it will give you the type of memory required.
