I have noticed that ECC RAM is often cheaper on the online auction sites. I assume this is because workstation boards rarely use it, and there aren't a lot of people willing to take a risk with "used" RAM in their expensive/critical server. To my knowledge, the difference is the extra parity chip on the ECC RAM... so... <I think you see where I'm going>... Could you remove that chip & make the RAM standard non-parity RAM... or are there other differences...
