Error message when openning folders

hi, since yesterday i have gotten this weird error message whenever i either open a folder or search something with Google, i know how i got this virus, i got it from stupidly installing an active x component which was a media codec i think but i cannot seem to get rid of it. i have tried running a virus scan and the scan was inconclusive and didn't find any viruses i then ran an anti-spyware scan which was again inconclusive and didn't find any critical objects. my anti virus software is 'Avast!' and my anti spy ware software is 'Ad-Aware 2007'. i have screen shotted the error message which i get, http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/7756/errormessagepn9.jpg

Download HijackThis from here. Download it to your desktop and NOT a temporary folder.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

• You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
• Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
• Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with an hijackthis log
• Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Try to system restore to before you installed the active x component. It may have changed the settings concerning Google Desktop.
You can always go to the control panel and then to add and remove programs and maybe repairing Google desktop will bring all the settings back to original. You should also bring up your task manager, it will reveal any hidden windows that may be preventing you from acting. You should run HijackThis! and post the log, it will give us a much better idea of what is going on in your computer.

Log looks ok but that does not mean your pc is clean :). Up to you if you run combofix or not.
