On the far left when the dialog box opens I get the following message...
"Please wait while Kaspersky Online Scanner 7.0 checks your computer configuration."
Then after a while I get this message (red in colour).
You need to install Java version 1.5 or later to run Kaspersky Online Scanner 7.0.
(I also get a prompt on screen saying the same thing)

Dan

Do you have Java enabled in your Internet Explorer?
Go up to Tools, Internet Options. When that opens then go to the Advanced Tab. Make sure there is a checkmark in Use Java SRE 1.6.0_7

Use Java SRE 1.6.0_7 <for applet> (requires restart)
Has a check in the box.

Well then let's not worry about it. ESET came up clean as did MBA-M
To get rid of the combofix program and it's quarantine do the following;
o uninstall ComboFix.exe And all Backups of files that it deleted

* Click START then RUN
* Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Reboot...keep your fingers crossed.

Run a new HJT scan and post the log.

Ok im rebooting but there was no disclaimer shown. Just a blue screen flashed up and then a prompt confirming the uninstallation.

Heres the most recent HJT Log...

Thanks Dan

Really looks pretty good I think. Do you feel problems are corrected or are things still not quite right?

Everything seems to be running tiptop!
I do however have a question...
What needs installing on my computer to stop this sort of mess from happening again?

Thanks
Dan

For one thing Dan, I don't see a firewall and you DO NEED a Firewall. Lots of good free ones out there take a look HERE for recommendations. About half way down the page you will see links for several good ones.

A MUST HAVE program, Highly Recommended is SpywareBlaster from javacool software. I wouldn't run a computer without it, truly.
It is a FREE program, DOESN'T run in the background and protects the computer from, to quote their website;

* Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
* Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
* Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

It DOES WORK.

Simply download, install, update and enable. Be sure to use also the Restricted Sites portion of the program.
Keep the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program and run it at least weekly, updating first. Follow the same procedures with it that you have in this thread.
Set your browser to only accept 1st party cookies and block 3rd party ones.
Keep Spybot updated and scan with it regularly.
If you feel everything is ok then click the solved button ok?
Judy

Thanks for everything Judy,
Youre a legend!

Much respect

Dan

So happy to help Dan. Thanks
Judy

Hey --

Sorry to butt in after all of this has been resolved for you, but I'd just like to weigh in and confirm some things for anyone else who happens across this particular bit of nastiness.

The issue in question does a few things. On the Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and perhaps other search engines, it will disable on-hover display of full links in the status bar of your browser.
More alarmingly, it will redirect any affected search query result you click to a "go.google.com", "go.msn.com", or "go.yahoo.com" link, which opens a random ad in a new window.
You can still copy/paste plaintext links into your address bar, or type them in directly. Thus, Google is still usable, just in an extremely cumbersome manner.
It also appears to block or cripple the loading of other websites in general.
It does not appear to be CPU intensive.

Per my searches here and elsewhere, MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware appears to be the most reliable means of cleaning this out. Just make sure that you update it first, and run a FULL scan.
This can take up to a few hours, depending on your hardware configuration and harddrive space consumption, but it's usually well worth the wait.
Once the scan is complete, view the results and make sure that the infected entries are all selected/checked, and Remove Selected.
This will likely prompt a system restart. Follow the prompt, and run another scan.

Hopefully that will be the end of it.
I can't guarantee results -- only offer this bit of anecdotal advice.
This is what worked for me and several others.
With any luck, it may apply in the similar cases that seem to be cropping up recently.
