To avert computer problems, I have been cleaning out Cookies. I have noticed that the cookies are from many varied web sites, most of which we have never heard of nor been to.
From where are these cookies spawned?

We are running IE 5.5, Windows ME, Norton Internet Security with Ad-Aware and Spybot run often. With only two adult users.

Thanks for your help!

It could pop ups or spyware that you have on your computer. Cookies come from any site that you visited.

This may be more than you wanted to know, but check these links:

To cut down on the spyware/adware related stuff you get, you should update your Internet Explorer to v.6, SP1 using Windows Update and install Spyware Blaster from here:

(hope the hurricane doesn't cause you too much trouble)
