I am adding a Samsung CD-RW drive to the same (secondary) IDE cable that connects my DVD drive currently - but my computer does not detect this drive. I've got an ECS LVMM3 motherboard, an AMD 3000+ processor, and my computer runs XP.

I have set the CD-RW drive to slave, per Samsung's directions, and the DVD drive is set to master. The DVD drive is on the end of the cable, while the new CD-RW is on the second connection. I have run Add New Hardware and have gone into Setup to try to get it to detect the drive - no luck.

Any ideas would be great!

Does the system even recognise the physical drive?

Right-click on My Computer, choose Properties, and go to Hardware->Device Manager->DVD/CD-ROM drives. Do you see the drive listed there? If so, does it have a red X or yellow exclamation point next to it?
