Starting today every time i try and open a file from a internet link for Windows media, all of my internet windows shut down. I have tried to download the new version 10 but it shuts down everytime i try and do that also. I have scanned for viruses and have found nothing. Has this happened to any one else?

try running windows update and if you internet still continues to shut down. download a different browers like mozilla and use that for windows media. it is supported by most if not all ie plugins. if that does not work try scanning you comptuer for spy ware with a program like spybot search and destroy or lavasoft
ad-aware which are both free at download.com do not pay for a spyware removal tool because you will be waisting your money.
