My 13 year old daughter had a friend over who downloaded a movie from the Internet. When it asked "open with", she entered Windows Media Center. Now, EVERYTHING is opening with Windows Media Center (E-mail; documents; pictures; etc.). I was able to get some things converted back by going to the Control Panel and changing the Default Programs for the ones I am certain of, but there are a ton of programs still defaulting to Windows Media Center and of course, won't open at all.

I hope I have explained the problem well enough and sure appreciate any advice I can get.

Oops...forgot to add: our computer is a Sony Vaio. I don't know if that is necessary to know or not. I'm new here...can you tell?

it sound like your problem is file association....
but maybe the file you're trying to open is not supposed to play with media player... anyway check the link below...
