Internet explorer connection problem

I am unable to connect to the web via internet explorer or opera...
The only way i can connect is to open my email client first then I.E
I have been through all the settings on my p.c and tried to use an Opera browser, and nothing i get page cannot be displayed.. and an option to work offline..

Now since my email client uses the same modem and settings as my browser i am at a lose as to why I.E isn't able to trigger a connection.
The program itself works fine once I am online, but can't get online on it's own..

Any ideas? i use x.p and i.e 6

this could be a browserhijack problem .try spybot,and ad-aware , found in my signature .
Also get hijackthis from here and post a log ,don't fix anything in it yet lets have a look first . unzop hijack to its own folder on you harddrive like c:\HIjack ,and runit from there the scan button will turn into a save button save it with note pad and copy /paste the full log here .

ok you can run hijack and fix these .reboot and run hijack again and post a new log .

Any of The 08 and 09 and 016 can be fixed if you know you don't want it. the 016 will come

Incredi mail and roboform are said by some to be more trouble than its worth !!

no i still can't connect, with I.E or Opera... but i can with incredimail or media player... (never had any problems with incredimail myself)

I think it must be a setting or something that i am missing, but i can't figure it out..

the window opens, and a box opens saying can't find connection asking if i want to retry or work offline, it just doesn't try to connect...
opera just says no network, both used to dial a connection as soon as they were opened..

now i have to open incredimail (or other program to dial up) first then open i.e which then works fine..
incredimail uses the same connection as i.e (as i have only one) but i.e won't even try to connect even i click retry

and i am broadband, but i don't like to leave it connected

In IE go to tools/internet options/connections and check off always dial my default connection.
as for opera ,I don't use it sorry .
You can connect using you ISP dialup icon , and then go to IE or opera ,Right !!

Im on dial-up and have identical prob, Outlook express or ANY other piece of software that wants to connect to the web will bring up the autoconnect box, but IE just doesnt see any connection.

Allways dial my default is checked.

re-created dialler
re-installed IE
made sure registry is saying to "autoconnect"

but IE will not play, this i think was after a Critical update from Microcr*p

and i think that it was a critical update from microsoft that did it... nice to see it isn't just me, as it means i didn't break it

sorry mate youre a bit incoherent. do you mean it wasnt IE6. if so im sorry i used to use that site when i first got xp to help me find out more about it. i never had any problems with that site before if i knew that was gonna happen i never would have recommended it.

Did all that ,downloaded ,I thought it would put it in that folder i created and put that file in ,C:\Downloads ,not there I don't know where it went .when i clicked that i wanted it for win98 it wouldn't download ,so i checked off winxp and it downloaded something ,but it must have been a ghost ,gone .

Check to see if your default connection setting in the browser is the one you actually use. You could have two files.

Check to see if it is set to actually dial the phone in the internet connection file, not just Outlook's setting.
