There is no free version of Windows. However, if you would like to run a trial, MS does provide trial versions for many of their products. You can visit their site and download an ISO image and obtain a trial serial key.

I would suggest download Windows 8 Preview edition. It is legal and license is valid until April next year. Plus upgrading to Windows 8 will be very cheap. I heard it is around 40 dollars.
But "normally" you cant get windows 7 for free.
