Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help.

My PC has an inbuilt microphone (according to Properties, it's Realtek AC97 Audio). I never had a problem recording with it before, but now suddenly it no longer works. I've tested it with Sound Recorder and the Control Panel testing thingy, but there's absolutely no movement and all I get played back is static. I can't understand why it suddenly doesn't work as I haven't played around with it since I last recorded something.

I have Windows XP, if that helps.

Can anyone help me please? Thanks!

Have you had a virus recently?
I would run a scan from an anti-virus program just to check.

check your Device Manager, ( Sound Controller ) if still working properly or any conflict on your driver..

I assume that my laptop has an inbuilt microphone but I don't think it is working and it has been suggested that it is turned off. If so how can I turn it back on.
