Hi,

I've just built my first PC - which may or may not have anything to do with my troubles...

I split my pc into 3 drives: 1.Windows, 2.ProgFiles, 3.Documents & Settings (done with an unattended install + answer file). All seemed fine.

A few days later I have a problem playing an avi file in WMP. Everytime I tried to open it, the PC simply rebooted itself. Some foruming later I discovered that it was xps way of dealing with the BSOD.

Because the PC was new I'd been installing a few programs, so I did a system restore to a few days earlier. When the sytstem restarted the start menu had completely disappeared! I tried a few different restore points, but this always happened.

Still looking into the avi problem (drivers perhaps... I'm trying that now), but currently concerned that the system restore feature on my new pc won't work properly.

Can anybody help to explain or solve this bit of XP randomness?
