Hello,

I'm running the Community edition of Packet trap . Brilliant software for IT toolkit. Those familiar with the product will know its paid software for the full version. My question is, does anyone know of software similar to software( more or less similar) that's freeware as I'm not in the position to buy.

I know you wont get the same for in freeware- but closest will do thanks!

I'm assuming you require these info for good intention only.

By going on your original post...You dont want to wait for user to give you authentication? If this is the case, yes you do get such legit software however the user will get a notification on the bottom right of his screen stating something like:
"user: sittas87 connected"

No action will be required from user side you will connect instantly

Software: DamewareMini(DamewareMini Pro)

i dont know if this is freeware but you can try the trial- Works similar to VNC

Hey Z

Thanks for the reply.i should close this tread- i found that the directory was too long of where they want to run the executable file from. I took the same file and moved it to a different location and found that there was no hassle to run it...but once i place any other dot exe file in that specific folder(or further in the directory) it wont run. I then realized that Microsoft has a directory\ character limit.
My users had 20+ sub folders in that specific folder...Crazy I would say... :)

Problem Solved>>>User Error<<<<
Thanks for your input!

Hi There

I dont know if there's anyone out there familiar with Vsphere Virtual Machine...

I have Vsphere machine that runs one VM installed on it with windows 2003. Thing is I removed the VM from the domain and joined it to the workgroup but now I dont know what the local administrator password of this vm machine is, as i was always logging in with my AD credentials before i removed it from the domain.

My question...How do I easily recover my VM 03 server password without losing data? Or how do I at least boot from cd disk in VM?

Any help\ ideas is GREATLY appreciated...

Hello

I have a server 2003 R2 where i have a number of shared folders. The shares work pretty fine depending on the users rights. The problem is for the users that has modifying rights, they can do just about anything but as soon as they want to execute a program from the share drive it gives them a error message stating they do not have permission to execute. The only way to execute the program is to copy to their local machine and run it that way.

I was just thinking is there a way to execute a program by implementing some security?

Many thanks

Hi
Looks like some OS(Operating System) files is missing or Drivers.
you proved this when you stated the PC doesn't want to start when booted normally but does boot normal when booting in safe mode.

When you boot your machine in Safe mode, only the minimum files and drivers is loaded including standard to very basic graphics drivers. this concludes that it can eighter be a driver issue or OS file thats missing. Your best bet would be to Run a normal windows repair

to run A windows repair:
Boot from OS Disk, skip the Recovery Console, choose repair the system. This will replace all windows system files only

NB: you wont loose your data

try this and let us know how it goes, post reply if you need detailed instructions

Hi
been working in the IT environment for some years now and never before has it taken me more than 3 hours to install a Operating system with its softies, currently its taking you more than a day to resolve this...Tripple Ouch!!!

HI
Post the error massage that you get. Note that software must be Operating System specific.

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi all

This is not a fix but a reasonable workaround. I would've just Booted to the "new" OS, copied all the data over from the "old" OS and installed the necessary drivers and software onto the new. When done I would've just deleted the old windows folder and who would've guessed I'm working on a new install :)

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi

You have two options:
1. you can run a windows repair from your Operating System disk, booting from the disk. This wont remove your data nor would you need System drivers.

OR

You can slave your drive back in your bro's pc and change the security settings to get full rights, I think you have to be logged in as the admin to do so. But note your bro's PC must be XP professional.

Let me know if you need some detailed advice and I'll direct as to how to fix this easy fix.

[edit]
option two can be modified to allow you full access to that drive.

HI
Id suggest a clean win 7 install and not a upgrade.

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi guys
Usefull info hassye, However id recommend that you first make sure that the IP addresses is in the same subnet ie. 10.0.0.1 & 10.0.0.2
Id recommend you do this first. Once done see if you can ping the machine to establixh if theres logical connection as well.
To ping: Go to start>run>type cmd> in the black box (command line) type ping 10.0.0.2 assuming you doing it from the pc with IP address 10.0.0.1

do that and report

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi
This can happen, however you going to need a router or switch. Because remember that there needs to be communication between the devices in order to be exposed to the WAN.

Hi all
I have a Toshiba L40 laptop witch I just formated with Win XP service Pack 2. Problem is when the laptop had a BIOS password on it. I knew the password but after installing a couple of windows drivers (sound, graphics etc) and needed to restart the pc I got annoyed by the password and wanted to remove it.

So I did, But the thing is now when I restart the laptop I still get the prompt to supply a password. thing is I've just pressed enter to uninstall the password in the BIOS. When I supply the old password now it doesnt wanna work. if I leave it blank and enter I get no go.

Am I missing something. Deadline is today...lovely stuff :-(

You must keep in mind that some mobo's just doesnt work well with soem hardware and might have some fault behavior.

I have a sahara usb mouse looks very cute, but whenever I restart switch on my pc whilst on the desktop I sometimes have to remove the mouse a number of times before my mouse will work.
The only reason why I still have the mouse is cos the retard looks cute. I know its the mouse cos I tested it on other pc's with the same result.

Now Im not saying that is the case with your ipod but the possibility is there. If you hav all your chipset drivers, Service Packs and usb drivers, correct Ipod Drivers installed than that issue might very well pooint to your mobo

Hi

How does your machine work if you connect one of the other routers for testing to your network card? If that works than my knowledge tells me its your NIC ( Network Interface Card/Network Card)

According to my knowledge tells me it can eighter be your NIC or the router.

Hi

Do you have a USB mouse, keybard or printer. if you do try any of those in the USB ports If it works then the problem can eighter be the USB cable of the Ipod or the Ipod itself.

Hi
What happens when you run local applications without having IE open. Does your machine still freeze. Run big apps or play a game and post a reply after doing so. Run the test over a long period.

It might be network packets thats causing this delay.
Do that and send a reply.

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi
Also make go to Device Manager and check if you have any unallocated space witch isnt formatted yet.

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi
Make sure you have the right drivers for your Hardware (Wireless Adapter)
If you have the correct software for the for the Wireless Card then it should work. Wireless is relatively easy.

Hi

Its XP Pro Sp2.

Thanx

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi

As mentioned by some of the posters it is highly recommended that you rather not fiddle with dll files.

However if the dll file is part of Nero witch you already uninstalled and it left some dll files witch you want to delete make sure the files isnt Read Only.

Right click the files or folder and uncheck the Read Only check box.
If It stil doesnt want to delete you might want to download the Unlocker Application to force delete the file.

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

When you go to Device manager do you see any yellow exclamation marks ? Or when you go to Device Manager and click the Network Devices plus + sign to display the device underneath it what do you see.

To get to Device Manager:
Right click My Computer>click on Manage>In the left pane double click Device Manager.

Hi
Thanks for the information. It appears that I'll have to install another application in order to password protect my folders. As for my Office files I can set a password. Meaning that before one can open and or modify the file they'll have to supply a password.

To do so open the file (word, excel etc) click on safe as> click on the tools tab> Click on General Options> Provide a Password in the open space and safe the file.

This is the password you'll have to supply when you reopen the Document the next time.

Cheers

Hi
In order for a wireless connection to work you going to need a wireless network card, a Network Access Point (NAP) and a Service Provider.

You then obviously gonna need the drivers for the wireless card and depending on you're Service Provider you going to do some basic configuration with regards to your wireless settings.

You can contact any good Service Provider for more information on this.

Hi
Ok what I did so far is I brought an additional 30 more licenses. Funny enough problem still exists. It happens round about or exactly 10am, 1pm and 4pm. After every two hours or so.

So I discovered something interesting. When the problem ac cures I only need to end one specific users session then all is good again. I can end all other users sessions on the Terminal Server but without ending that one specific users session the problem will still be there.
Ive changed her Terminal/client but problem is still there. I want to change her terminal/ client with an older one seeing that she's one of the only people that has a newer terminal.

Will try that silly troubleshooting technique and post again.

Cheers for now

Hi there
Im fully patched so I believe seeing that It worked fine for the past year (2008). I like the way you thinking when you menstion licensing because ive also been idleing on that topic.

What have is this:
I have a license server(I'll call it server A) witch was providing the licenses to the thin clients. But Ive discovered before server A was implemented the thin clients was getting they're licenses from a server from an external server (company related but residing on another site)

Now we have 25 Licenses but funny enough due to IT policy from national management blah blah blah... but we have more staff(users) so what I think is happening is the Terminal server witch usually get its licences from Server A is pointing to the server on the other site once all the licenses locally is used up.

Im currently making contact with microsoft to get more licenses to see if thats going to solve my prob.

Will post again

sittas87 91 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi Guys

Probably the most hectic one Ive experienced so far.
I have a Terminal Server witch the majority of my staff connects to. It started very recently that atleast twice a day I get the error RPC Error Unavailable when some of my users try to log onto the server. For the remainder of the users thats still connected to the server, will experience very slow performance, cant print, and some other issues resulting because of this.

When I log on to the Server itself as admin I'll experience the following: When ending(disconnecting) all sessions untill theres so four-eight sessions open only then can this users start working pain free again.

Hope anyone has any ideas.

My fwend i got stuck in the moment. I want to apologise sincerely. the percentage is in task manager is the usage of you're cpu. It is the degrees that you should be looking at for overheating. You must monitor the pc health status on the first screen @ startup or alternatively in you're BIOS> PC Health/Status.

Thank you for the correction Jbennet. Apologies to you SeeJay
