Master course are usually quite tough and time-consuming if you are taking it part-time. Been through that path before. So perhaps you can try to get the professional cert instead. But do mentally prepared, since you are sort of changing career path, your starting pay in the new field may not be as much as your previous one which you have 8 years exp.
I had some bad experiences with Acer laptops (my very first laptop was from acer) so I normally will not recommend them.

Its a bit vague. Through what kind of protocol do you want the mobile to communicate with the PC? via SMS (TXT) messaging? via phone call? And what level of controls are you looking at?

I guess if you have a solid foundation in computer science, you can pick up different languages quite easily. But from my experience, if you are learning a few languages at the same time, you might sometimes get crossover and confusion over the syntax.

Why not put your music degree to work in the IT field. I should think you could get a job at one of the big game houses providing and/or writing music for the games. You might also want to get back in school and get another degree in computer science.
Perhaps instead of writing music for games, he can work in some IT industries that require domain knowledge in music.
I had a friend who worked in this company that develop Autocad, but she is just an average programmer. The reason she was employed was because of her mechanical engineering knowledge on top of her programming experiences.
I believe their algo is regularly changing and enhanced, so outsiders do not know the exact algo. We can only make some informed guess and experiments.

Nope, I don't think spiders are considered as traffic.
You can use google webmaster tools. It will track all the links to your sites, including the "nofollow" ones.
The "link:yourdomain" search don't give you all the links.
