So, I've decided to emerge myself in PHP so that I can get more functionality out of my WordPress site. Thanks Diafol for this nudge, I think it has been long overdue.

Buying an email list and then spamming it with goods or services will not be good for your business. However, if you are getting people to opt into a good or service and they give you their email, then you have a better chance of success with the opt ins. In saying that, you still need to provide valuable content in an email - it shouldn't be "buy this" and "buy that", plastered all over the message.

A good email should have an offer and possibly a link back to your website.

@Canadafred,

"Learn how to write well, in English" makes the assumption that Tabassum's target market is English. There are plenty of successful, non-English sites out there. I agree with learning to write well though, no matter what language.

Use social media for back links to your site and do keyword planning using Google's keyword planning tool. You have to work it and be relevant. I wrote a blog post about keyword planning, check out http://michaelmvasas.mlspsites.com/keyword-planning/

No matter which blogging platform you use, make sure you own the content of what you are blogging. If you post on Tumblr, Tumblr will own the rights to your content.

I use WordPress with MLSP (My Lead System Pro) and it is very effective for drawing leads from social media to the site and then keeping them engaged. I own my site and make affiliate money for promoting certain MLSP products and campaigns. It's affordable and comes with all the necessary tools for successful blogging.

Let me get this straight: You're doing a second year student in computer and information sciences?

Also, there are no members of this community that will do your homework for you. Show us what you have done so far and we can help. It's your homework, you should already have a general understanding of what is required of you, up to the point of your assignment. If you do not have an understanding then it is because of one or more of the following reasons:
1. You don't pay attention while in class
2. You don't attend class
3. You don't understand computer sciences
4. You don't want to understand computer sciences

We can help, but you need to help us help you!

@Cooper_1, you're absolutely right, reading does help improve language and it is entirely possible that people are not reading enough.

As for texting, I get why people would have used shortened words like ltr for later, or cya for see you (and the thousands of other shortened words). However, we shortened words because of how texting was done during the early to mid 2000s. Having to press a button multiple times for one letter, was a pain in the ace so the shortening of words was easier. Nowadays that is not an issue and I believe texting can be done with full words and a more proficient use of grammar. Also, I don't agree that kids are the culprits here, I find the adults are bigger offenders of the English language, in written or texted form.

In saying this, no one is perfect and I don't profess to be perfect when writing. However, I do try to better myself and take critism quite well so that I can learn and better myself.

I do not think English is an easy language for most people; if it was, English born people would be better speakers and writers. In my "professional" world that I work in, I see grammatical errors from a lot of colleagues on a daily basis. I do not sit and correct people, even though I would like to. Instead, I take it all in, figure out what the intent is, and then shake my head. I get poor english skills for texting but letters and emails, there's no excuse in my opinion.

So what have you got? Games are not my specialty but you are being so vague that you will have a very hard time getting anyone to help. Plus, this seems like it's a school project, for sure you're not going to get someone from this awesome forum to do your homework for you.

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

Why do you "have to make a simple game project"? What type of game? What platform will it be played on?

Hi Alikhan094 and welcome to Daniweb. Can you please provide what code you have come up with so far? You will not find anyone from this great forum that will do your homework for you.

@Dave, that is common throughout the world of coding forums in my opinion. I have found that a lot of people, not all but still many, take free help from forums for granted. They come to expect quick and right answers and will often not have the courtesy to be thankful. When I first started out on forums, it bugged me a lot to have to deal with ungrateful people. However, I like helping more than I like acknowledgement of the help I am giving.

Bad Dani, how dare you take such things as a "holiday" or a "hiatus"? [sarcasm]I don't know about everyone else here but you should work at least 17 hours per day, seven days per week, 52 weeks per year, UNTIL YOU DIE![/sarcasm]

Now that that is out of the way, I will send you a list of my demands for this site.

Personally, I think the functionality of this site is second to none! I use at least 5 other forums and this is my favorite. You, Wojciech 1, imo, are one of those that can never be pleased. If you are truly unhappy here, don't use these free services. Who are you, exactly, that you think you can dictate to Dani how and what she should do on her site? That's rather presumptuous don't you think?

I have an idea, start your own help forum and see how it goes, perhaps you'll have the knack to please everyone! Nah, I'm thinking not!

I don't know about anyone else but I found this thread entertaining! As for being a prodigy I think that an interested mind can read a programming book and then say that he/she can program. As many have stated here, programming to people's requirements when requirements change every second hour is what makes a true programmer.

As for massaging a kids ego, I'm not about that at all. In my opinion, accollades need only be acknowledged after they are earned. This thread, in its broadest form, reminds me of watching the tryouts for American idol and the 18 / 19 year is there to sing because their parents lover their voice. When they get up to actually sing, they are horrible. When they are told they are horrible they are devastated because they've been made to feel like they were something they were not by parents that feel bad about telling their kids the truth.

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

Holy Grammar Stuugie, perhaps I need to go back to school. Oh well, I guess it can happen from time to time.

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

Hi All,

This is a rant as well as a discussion.

First, some background:

On this forum and another forum I frequent I have been seeing a lot of the "Please help, I cannot figure out my assignment" type of questions. Just today in the Software Development forum someone is giving a deadline and a cry about wasting money if he/she doesn't pass. Also, my youngest son just finished a science project with 1 of 2 other boys and the 3rd boy has been whining to allow him to get a mark too.

WTF?

Why do so many people expect to be rewarded (with grades, jobs, salaries, commissions, and etc.) and yet they do not feel like they should put in the work required? If I came to work everyday and didn't apply some sort of effort I wouldn't have a job!

A little more context for my son's scenario, the 3 boys were supposed to meet during the Christmas holidays, 3 times, to work on their project. The one who did not attend had excuses like, my dad can't drop me off and pick me up (and still refused when I offered a ride, he wasn't aloud to be driven by me) or his family was having a movie night and therefore he couldn't attend. I don't even remember the very first excuse. Either way, it all adds up to a 0 for him and my son told him that (but with nicer words). The kid begged a bit …

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

I thoroughly comment my code but sometimes I fail to do so when the code is rushed out of me. Describing exactly what complex code is doing will save you time and pain when you have to exam it months from its origin date. Take the time now to save time later works best in my opinion.

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

While I can understand that this appears to be a lot to do, if you follow each of your assignment requirements, point by point, you will have it finished in no time. As it is, this forum and its members do not promote doing a student's homework for them. It kind of defeats the purpose of you learning don't you think?

So some work, if it is wrong, we can help but you will not get the work done for you. :)

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

That is unreal jwenting and unfortunate for all the kids coming up in this world of uneducation. The highschool my oldest son goes to has academic standards for which all students (and teachers) must abide. Their approach to learning is different though, they actually support those that don't learn at the same rate as other children but in the end most if not all students leave there educated. My son for instance is on a team taking part in a thing called Cyber Defense, hosted by (I think) the American military. Out of the thousands of highschools participating, my son's team is in second place so far. They want to learn and the teachers want to teach. I love it. However, my youngest son's school is not quite the same and that is very unfortunate.

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

If I sound angered by this it is because I just finished corresponding with a 3rd grade teacher; her spelling was atrocious and her grammar was worse. The whole time I was reading her email I was thinking "you're f%%king teaching this to young children?". Makes me mad.

Stuugie 50 Marketing Strategist

Wow, did this topic get derailed or what? As for teaching, I would like to add that your written word is important. For instance,

who has been a teacher before i know i haven't this is my first time being one can anyone give me any tuips about being a teacher?

  • is horrible. If you are going to be that lazy that you cannot even include caps on starting words - "Who" and capping each "I", well, perhaps you are not very qualified. Also, what are tuips? I know you meant tips but teaching should be accurate and not jumbled together like your question, which is a run-on question/sentence too.

At all you others who are poo-pooing science, remember, people are the ones that can ruin it for other people, not science. When you blanket statement 'science' it makes me think about blanket statement topics like religions, which religious people do not like. For instance, Islamists are all terrorists. Now I don't mean that so don't get your shorts in a knot, I'm just saying that seeing all these types of blanket statements are bothersome, in all discussions.

My 3 pennies.

diafol commented: Agreed - this thread should focus about teaching, science is immaterial (says a science teacher) +0

Hi Don,

I'm not sure if what I have will help but if you select the date to find and then run the code, it should find it on the other sheet. You'll probably need to changed the sheet names and such to fit your requirements. Let me know how it goes:

Sub FindDates()

    Dim wS1 As Worksheet, wS2 As Worksheet
    Dim oC As Range
    Dim fStr As String, hStr As String
    Dim rowA As Long

    Set wS1 = Worksheets("Sheet1"): Set wS2 = Worksheets("Sheet2")
    fStr = ActiveCell.Text

    For Each oC In wS2.Range(wS2.Cells(1, 1), wS2.Cells(wS2.Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp))
        If Mid(fStr, 2, 1) <> "-" Then
            If Left(oC.Text, 6) = fStr Then
                rowA = oC.Row
                Debug.Print rowA
            End If
        Else
            'Debug.Print Left(oC.Text, 5)
            If Left(oC.Text, 5) = fStr Then
                rowA = oC.Row
                Debug.Print rowA
            End If
        End If
    Next oC

End Sub

Perhaps you are in the wrong field of studies then?

Think about what you are asking here, you want someone to do your assignment for you, in essence, EARN your grade for you.

Do you know how the helpers here actually help people? It's by learning how to do this, not having others do it for them.

In the end, and this may sound harsh to you but, you are responsible for your work, we are not. If you want to throw a fit and state:

ok no body wants to solve the probs .. so close the discussion .. and Thankx alot

than so be it. If I were you though, I would work through your assignment and seek help with the code that you've tested.

What do you mean

all information became in one cell

If it's all in one cell then by all means the Fixed Width Text-to-Columns is the right course of action. I don't understand what filtering has to do with your original problem.

One step at a time:

I want to import it into Excel file so each info will be in seperated coloumn

You'll need text-to-columns for this. Perhaps you'll need to upload a workbook with a bit of data in the same format.

Well if you're not doing what you love, like coding, and you can accept a temporary reduction in pay; then yes, move on as it will no doubt do your mind some good. As far as getting somewhere with the path you've chosen, I think you can but you may not like the journey which may make the end of the journey feel bitter.

I'm not sure how long I could go from doing what I love to do (coding, analysis, stuff like that) to just paper work or data-entry. Work like data-entry is blah in my opinion but it is necessary, it just shouldn't be done by programmers (unless it's for testing).
