if you have never used mysql before, depending on your background with sql databases in general, it might be easier for you to start understand things using the mysql gui tools (i think they upgraded it to something new not to long ago, can't remember the name) visit mysql.com im sure they have a link to the gui tools somewhere.

or - sorry. if it is a web mysql database, there is more than likely a management software installed somewhere. like php myadmin. it provides a gui to build tables etc.
