i want to know what are the lower triangle and upper triangle mean in a matrix.

For eg:

if matrix is [ 1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8
9 0 1 2
3 4 5 6 ]
then what will the lower triangle and upper triangle in this
Please tell properly.
