where do i start

I am a construction man but very interested in computers. I want to learn the C# but have no idea where to start. whether i have to get a software or just start with notepad. I enrolled on a course but for 4months now i have not even receive a piece of paper.
can somebody advise me

Yes you will need software :) I would suggest download the Visual C# 2005 Express edition which can be found here!!

I would also do some reading up on C# to ;) Here is a pretty easy tutorial for all sorts of programmers to understand :)

Anyway can I create a C# programme and link a report to open in excel or word for editing if the need be?

I think you should just get the C# VS Express Edition and then start looking tutorial online for Hello World program, and then get into the deeper one using variables etc, and more rules how to create method, class, namespace, inheritance, etc.. there's one tutorial from Sam's that will teach you C# in 24 hours, but not that good.. i prefer o'reilly :) really detail
