Machine Account Local Profile

I created a personal website using the Microsoft personal website starter kit (http://www.asp.net/downloads/starter-kits/personal/) then tried to run it in Visual Web Developer 2008. When I did so, I got the error msg shown below.

My OS is Win XP Home and I am running Visual Web Developer in an admin account.

I do not have an ASP.NET machine account on my computer. (As an aside, I think they are no longer needed for ASP.NET 2 - is this true?)

It doesnt matter anyway because XP home doesnt have IIS. Visual studio 2005 and above have an inbuult web server (cassinni) used for debugging (this was added because you previously in versions 2002 and 2003 couldnt develop ASP.NET apps at all on Home). This runs as the current user, unlike IIS, which uses a series of minimally-privileged service accounts such as the previously mentioned ASP.NET machine account (which, yes, isnt needed for ASP.NET 2)

So thats not your problem. Your problem seems to be making contact with your SQL Express instance. Check you have it installed, that the service is started, and that your firewall isnt blocking it.

Firstly, thanks for having a look at my prob.

I agree, the prob is making contact with SQL Express 2008.

It is installed. I can connect to it using SQL Server Management Studio.

I have no firewall installed.
