How to Insert Header footer images into word doc?

i want to insert images as header and footer into word document file.
How to do this?

Any api available for this?

i am asking about add header as image into word document through program
and footer as text.

So header and footer apply to all pages which contains the data.

and not to open word file manually and insert header as suggested by drewpark88

Would it be possible to use a pdf file rather than a word doc?
