ASP.NET master pages allow you to create a consistent layout for the pages in your application. A single master page defines the look and feel and standard behavior that you want for all of the pages. You need to create content page whose container is your master page. And then run content page which shows page along with master page.

Hey dear.... Master page is only directory Listing its own not running . first we give reference or content type as select master page ....its like a container or for formtting webpage like reduce compability of controls which are used more than one pages... and master page allows a .aspx page to default master conternt....
