If you want to communicate via a serial port, check out USPP and PySerial, but however the signal enters your computer, you will have to have an interface to the port. How are you connecting to the GSM modem? With a SerialPort? USB? You want to get the comms working natively inside your application if you intend to build something useful out of it. But you don't need a gsm simcard for that. you have to options which are almost the same. 1. Use your WLAN 2. Use WAN basically any two devices can communicate using Tcp as long the IP address is known to both parties. what exactly are you trying to archive ?
