What should i do now to get this off my machine? Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Busby

Seems i've contracted some bad stuff. I've run complete scans with Norton 360, Adaware SE, and Spybot (all with the latest updates i could get). Still problems. So I've just joined this forum.

My last scan with Spybot brought up these:
smitFraud and Virtumonde

I ran in safe mode and used smitFraud Fix and Rogue Remover several times. I also turned off system restore and after finished turned it back on to set a new restore point. I deleted temp files in windows and cookies in browsers.

i keep getting popups prompting me to get new software. Windows with titles that say things like:
"System integrity scan wizard pop-up"
Several times I've booted in normal mode and I never got desktop icons all looking right and I couldn't do anything, when I went to the task bar I just got an hourglass.

I just downloaded and ran Hijack this and here's my log:

Hi Busby,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post.

While I can not analyze you log file fully, it appears that you have a Norton product installed on your computer. Can you please let me know which Norton product and version you are using?

If you have not already done so, the first step you should take is to run LiveUpdate to make sure that you have the latest program and definition files applied. You may need to run it more than once, until it alerts you that there are no more updates available. Once that is complete, you should restart your computer into Windows Safe Mode and run a Full System Scan from Norton while in Safe Mode.

If the scan in Safe Mode does not remove the infection, please follow these steps to download and install the Norton Security Scanner.

1. Click on the following link:

Norton Security Scan

2. Click on the file "NortonSecurityScan.exe" and then choose "Save File."

3. Once the file has been downloaded, double-click on it to install the application. When the application is installed, restart your computer in Safe mode and then run the Norton Security scan.

Please let me know if this process removes the infection from your computer.

Thank you,
Mike

I just upgraded my norton internet security last month (3/22) to norton 360. I've ran scans and have done everything except the backup online. So it has been less than one month since I did live updates. After I bought 360 I had trouble installing anti-spam and a norton person had to use remote access to my pc to install it. It took about a half hour. since I was used to norton IS when I wanted to scan one file I didn't know how to do it. The interface allows you to exclude files but just to scan a file I couldn't figure out and couldn't find anything in the help files. I tried to contact norton online and get into live chat or look at faq's and I had no luck. When I tried to connect to use live chat the process hung on checking my account info or something like that for about 45 minutes before i gave up. This happened 3 times. Finally on one of these techy web sites someone told me to just right click on the file and scan. This is what I did when I downloaded what was supposed to be an active x update. I downloaded and thought that I would scan it with norton first, of course. I had norton scan it and norton said it was ok. I opened the file and that's when all my troubles began with this virus or malware.

So, in effect I upgraded to norton (spending more money) and have been having problems ever since and now I just gave up and took my computer to the local shop (on Friday-$150) and they got rid of the problems, but at some point they told me I'd have to reload windows. I'll do this when I have the time. This whole thing has cost me dearly as this was tax time and I also had a bunch of work due for clients. I'm a web designer. The local tech people installed AVG on my computer and as far as I'm concerned I'M THROUGH WITH NORTON!

I was just talking to a client today and I told them my story. They were asking me about what I recommended for anti-virus since they knew my story and need to get some themselves-their anti-virus on their new Dell ran out yesterday; They had been waiting for me to deliver a site for them. I told them they could have my Norton and they looked at me and we all just laughed. Seriously, I'll probably just throw it in the trash or try to get a few bucks for it on Craig's list, since there are 2 installs left, but I'd feel obligated to explain to the buyer if I can find one what happened.

To respond to your post, I tried to run norton in safe mode and it said it couldn't run. I had joined this group, and Major Geek, looking for help and I tried to fix this on my own and couldn't. I have another computer that I downloaded a couple of fixer programs like I mentioned but this other computer is too old and slow and I can't load Adobe CS3 for my work on it even.

So you're days late and dollars short. I find it ironic that you post to me, given that I do hold your software responsible for this mess. I counted on Norton and was let down. What else can I say?
