marar,

Hi and welcome to the Daniweb forums :).

===============

Download the Adware.Istbar removal utility from Symantec and following the instructions on the same page.

===============

Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O3 - Toolbar: YourSiteBar - {86227D9C-0EFE-4f8a-AA55-30386A3F5686} - C:\PROGRA~1\YOURSI~1\YSB.DLL (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] \ISTsvc\istsvc.exe

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to "view system and hidden files/ folders:"

Search for...

ISTsvc

...using "Start | Search...". It will likely be in your program files folder.

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

-

Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

===============

After rebooting your PC, rescan with hijackthis and post a new log.
Let me know how things are now.

Hari

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

===============

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

If you are still having problems, post back.

Happy surfing,

please help me and I would like to post you the log reports of some other systems too
shall I send it as a new thread....
Wishing you a gr8 time and nice day,I remain

Harish Balakrishnan Marar

See if you can locate C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SPOOL32.EXE and right click on the file. Select 'properties' and get all the information you can. Manufacturer, instal date etc.

Please post any other logs into separate threads, indicating that they are for different systems to this one :).

hi,

Thanks for the patience and concern shown by you first of all.

As you have asked in the reply, I have made note of the properties which I am quoting as below:

Version : 4.10.1998
Description: Spooler Subsytem Process
Copyright: Microsoft Coreporation 94-98

Other Version information:

Company Name: Microsoft Corp.
Internal Name : Spool32
Language : English (US)
Original Filename: spool32.exe
Product Name: Microsoft(R)Windows(R)
Operating System
Product Version: 4.10.1998

Hope this was the specifications you asked to me in your reply and thanks for the consideration and wishing you a gr8 day and nice time,

Harish Balakrishnan Marar

Sorry to mess you around, but did you copy and paste the above information, or did you type it here?
The reason I ask is because of the spelling error in this word; Coreporation
There should be no 'e.'

hi,

Yes i typed the properties and the spelling mistake occured from me.
Thanks.
I believe : ' it is ok' to type.

sincerely
Harish Balakrishnan Marar

Can you please post a startup list using hijackthis.

Run hijackthis and go to>Open the Misc Tools section then hit the generate startuplist log after placing a check in the list also minor sections.

The problem you are experiencing may well not be related to malware. We will wait and see.

hi,

Thanks for the reply and concern.Right now today morning, I reached office and started the system, I tried to access my system which made it get stuck.Then neither the keyboard / mouse works.

On restart, it started fine , i ran the hijackthis.after that i closed the hijackthis and then came the blue screen again sayin ' An exception has occurred - some memory location-etc...

I have done as you said earlier and is pasting here the startuplog created by hijackthis.

Hi again. Looking at those logs I see nothing that stands out as not being necessary. So I think we can rule out any malware now.
Let's try running scandisk.

Here is how to do it from Microsoft;

Click the Start button.
Point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click ScanDisk.
Click the drive you want to scan, and choose either the Standard or Thorough test.
Click Start.

The Standard test checks the files and folders on the selected drives for errors.
The Thorough test will give you further options. It performs the Standard test plus checks your hard disk drive for physical damage. You can even specify to scan areas of your disk containing only data files, or just the areas with system files, or both.
Both Standard and Thorough have a set of Advanced options that help you to deal with lost file fragments, invalid files, and files that overlap the same disk space. You can also choose to keep a log file of what ScanDisk finds.

If you have problems try doing it in safe mode.

You should also try defragmenting your hard drive.

Let me know how you get on.

hi crunchie,

Hope you would not mind, if this reply ia a bit lengthy.

I tried scandisk with thorough option and after a few minutes poped a window with 3 options -> ignore and continue,Covert to files,and freeing space.
I gave for freeing space option and the scan process was re-initiated.

Now during the process came the blue window with the message:-

' A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C001545A. The current application would be terminated.'{[ I do not about which application that screen was talking about]}

Scandisl was still running after my pressing my key.Then after sometime came the popup window saying:- ' Scandisk has restarted 10 times b'coz windows or some programm has been writing'.

{}

Crunchie, this system used to crash like this even before the current OS and and that time I believed it was the virus and worms as broadband was throughout the LAN without any security considerations.and at the same time came the letter from Microsoft for procurring the windows originals for the pirated once.So the C: drive was completedly formatted of every system, and then installed the windows 98.

Also, Norton 2005 and corporate edition were there in this system and with gr8 difficulty the 2005 was removed.In one of my systems(not this one), the first screen that comes even now is the symantec configuration file is missing with a 'OK' button and then username and password.Till that evening it was working , morning with this message and MS Office corrupted.

I mentioned this because, If this piece of information proves useful for you to trace my problem , i would be mory happy.

Thanking you ,

Harish Balakrishnan Marar

Not bored, just a little uncertain as to the problem :).

Hi Harish, Comotose had a thought (he actually has a lot of them, but this one had to do with your problem :) )

You could be having a memory problem -- well, your computer could be having a memory problem. Do you remember if you added any RAM around the time you started having trouble? If so, there could be an incompatability problem.

If not, it could still mean that a stick of RAM has gone bad, or is just not seated properly.

Use a wrist strap, or other means, to protect against static electricity, and try removing one stick at a time, booting your system with one stick missing at a time, and see if it makes any difference.

If it does, replace the RAM and boot up again -- if it works, it was just not seated well; if it still doesn't, the RAM is either bad or incompatible.

Try different RAM slots as well.

If none of this makes any difference, the problem must lie elsewhere.
