Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and also all these virus problems. I have quite a good virus scanner and, as far as i can tell, have never had a problem before.

The problem I have now is with internet explorer. I have a search bar which I dont know where it came from, pop-ups are coming up all the time, I have favourites that i didnt save and I cant delete them along with other similar annoying problems. Whatever this is, it also seems to be slowing down my PC.

If there is there anyone out there who can help me get rid of all of these annoying problems, I would be very greatful if you could let me know how.

Thanks very much for reading this and i very much look forward to your help.

Hi and welcome to Daniweb. :) You could start off by downloading these programs and scanning your computer with them and letting them fix any problems they find:
Adaware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot Search and Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
After scanning with those two and fixing whatever problems are found, download Hijackthis. Making sure all other browser windows are closed, scan with hijackthis. Do not fix anything yet. Copy and paste the results here so one of the experts can take a look at it. Also be sure to save hijackthis in its own permanent folder when you download it, not a temporary one. That should get you started until someone else takes a look at your thread. :) Good luck!

**The links are kind of old...they are ones I wrote down when I was fixing my computer...if by some chance they don't work let me know.**

not only your browser that is infected your system has gotten the baddies too.. here's what to do for the browser problem;

- download spyware blaster click here to get it from download.com install and run the program, there is an easy step by step guide to help you use it..... what this program does is put a block list of known bad sites..

- download microsoft antispyware from here (it's from microsoft so they know what has to be in your browser) after you've install the program run it (you can do the scan to remove adware first) then go to tools>advance tools>browser hijacking restore then select all the check boxes (warning; your home page may be removed) then click restore..

this is only for your browser though, but the problem is going to come back sooner or later check here for tips on helpful programs

I would be greatful if someone in the know could look at this and tell me what it means.
Thanks again for your help.

You have some entries there that need removing.

===============

Next, we need to remove(uninstall) the 'lop' infection by going to here, then downloading and running the uninstaller(s) that relate to the application(s) your wanting to remove. The following selections are available: "Start page", "Search engine", "Accessories Toolbar".

After uninstalling any (or all) of the above, let's see if we have anything in "Scheduled Tasks":

Download, unzip and run ScheduledTasks.bat (courtesy of ddeerrff), and when notepad comes up, post the contents back to this thread.

===============

Uninstall Messenger Plus as it comes bundled with LOP, the infection you currently enjoy :). You can reinstall Messenger Plus without the sponsor.

===============

Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.pbtkrzigexwrlrcfpo.com/M...JNxBAspDk7S.htm
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.fyihntrwsbhmmfzqykzowaq....NxBAspDk7S.html

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Camp Bone] C:\DOCUME~1\Fran\APPLIC~1\STUPID~1\deletecakemeet.exe

Now, with all windows closed (including Internet Explorer) except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\DOCUME~1\Fran\APPLIC~1\STUPID~1

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Let me know how everything goes.

Thank you very much for your help. I did what you said and it seemed to solve the problem. However, i couldnt run the lop uninstaller, NOD picked it up as a virus. I did the rest and it seemed to be ok though.
I did windows update and a couple of other things (this was a few hours ago now), i then had to restart after doing this. Now everything seems to be back to how it was. The search bar is back, pop-ups etc.
Here are the results of a scan i have just done:

Do you have any other ideas as to why I have this and why it has come back? As you can imagine, this is very irritating for someone like me who doesnt know how to fix this myself.
Thanks again for all your help, it is much appreciated.

You need to get nod to allow the uninstaller to run. If you get a message from nod, does it give you an option to allow the file to run? If so, pick that option. It is not a virus, but a legitimate removal tool.

Hi,
I disabled nod while I did this and it still wouldnt let me. It said it couldnt download from the server or something like that. So i searched for another site to use. I found another program that was recomended and I found out how to uninstall lop manually. I did what it said and it seems to have fixed the problem. Hopefully it will stay fixed this time. It has done so far.
Thank you so much for all your help, it is much appreciated.

:D :D :D

What was the other recommended program?
