Hello,

I've got the qoolaid trojan downloader and can't get rid of it. Norton and Ewido etc. find it and can't delete it. I go through safe mode and still can't delete them manually. Here is my hijackthis log. Any help would be great. My systems are the identification of the qoolaid downloaders, constant pop ups and fillable forms- for when you are asked to put in an email address turn yellow. :cry: Thanks.

Have you updated Ewido's reference file, booted into safe mode and let it remove what it finds? Ewido does remove this infection.

Can you please do the following.

===============

Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.clicktomakeasearch.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.clicktomakeasearch.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.clicktomakeasearch.com/sp2.php

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINNT\System32\skx4gg.exe reg_run

O20 - Winlogon Notify: NavLogon - C:\WINNT\

O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\YnVja3IA\command.exe

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\WINNT\YnVja3IA

files...

C:\WINNT\System32\skx4gg.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Hi Crunchie,

My Ewido was last updated 10-31-05. It, Norton, and pretty much everythign finds it and can't delete. I did try in safe mode as well. I ran hijack this and ticked what you suggested however both:

C:\WINNT\YnVja3IA

files...

C:\WINNT\System32\skx4gg.exe

were not present and I do have my computer set to view all files. Here is my fresh hijack this log. Any thoughts as to why I couldn't get rid of this with Ewido?

Please download the attachment FindQoologic by baskar1234. Unzip the folder and go to the new qoologic folder and doubleclick on qoologic.bat to run it. It will take a few minutes to scan your drive so be patient. When it has finished, open My Computer, doubleclick on C: and copy and paste the contents of the below logs in this thread.

C:\log.txt
C:\win.txt
C:\start.txt

Not sure why Ewido hasn't cleaned it, it should. Does it find the file when in safe mode?

Hmmm. I let the program finish but the only file I see is the win.txt and log.txt logs. I believe the MRT files are ones that I got from my friend. I set up a folder to get his files from him (through AIM) so I coudl put them on a disk- they were just pictures and word documents though (this guy would never intenionally send me anything bad). What do you think?

C:\Documents and Settings\buckr\Desktop\qoologic

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.

the start.txt file was blank

Please run these instead as that doesn't show anything. Better to be safe :).

    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo

Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe

  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
    1. Go to the WinPFind folder
