Javascript cannot connect to a database, but you can make a request to a server-side page which does so using javascript (known as AJAX).

Shanti is right. Javascript does not allow you to connect to the database.
To connect your web page to a database you need to use a server side script such as PHP, ASP,JSP,etc.. which along with a database syatem such as MySQL,DB2,etc...allow you to connect to the database.
