If I reinstall windows after saving my documents and pics, can the virus get back in via my saved files?

It shouldn't, unless the infected file itself is carried to the new computer.

You should install a virus checker if you don't have one already, and run a scan on all the files you're planning to backup. It wouldn't do any good to bring the virus back on the freshly formatted system.
