Can I install PC2700 256k Ram with PC3200 1GIG ram?

I'm assuming you mean replace a 256mb stick of PC2700 RAM with the 1GB pc3200.

Usually Yes, you'd need to check your particular motherboard since some boards have a maximum size for memory modules. Generally speaking though a gig stick of PC3200 will work in any system that takes 168 pin DDR RAM.

Not always, Some systems that use the PC2100 type RAM are only compatible with that type of RAM and PC2700.

I personally would check what RAM your system can take using Crucials RAM checking software:

http://www.crucial.com/

There scanner will run through your system, takes a minute tops, and will tell you what type of RAM your system can support, and how much you can put into each slot.
