I have a iilayma ProliteE435S 17" LCD monitor, I have only had it for about 2 years.

The problem is that the colours are all awry. Too much red, umm I don't know - it could be the black and white settings, the blacks seem to have too much red in them. The funny thing is that when I use the Auto button everything is fine for 5 seconds, it does not keep these settings and goes back to the previous awful colours - does anybody have any ideas before I "bin" it?

Manually set the setting and save it. Maybe your auto tuning is dead.

I have no problem with changing the colours, it's just that I cannot get the correct black/grey, it's far too red, but the auto switch corrects this for only 5 seconds.
