Exactly what does dead mean? Any errors while booting? Have you tried to access the drive using another PC (USB-->IDE)?

Yes we need more information. Does the drive show up in BIOS? If not, try different cables (both ide/sata AND power). Also try connecting the drive to a different connector on the motherboard, one on a separate controller if possible. If that doesn't work, attach it to another computer if available.

If there an atachment fault use diffrent data cable and power cable , if problem presist than check put out hard disk and pluged only power cable if its powers on and no noise coming from hard drive than its can b repair able by adjusting diodes on the card of the hard drive . If hard drive make noise like tik tik its unrepairable .
