I've got an HP ZV5000 laptop which has not had any problems up until now. This morning when I tried starting it up, I was taken to the screen that tells me it was not shut down properly. I'm given the option of starting normally, use last known good configuration, safe mode, etc. No matter which option I try, it starts booting, then I qet a split second flash of some message on a blue backround, and then am taken back to that screen with the different startup options again. The only thing that's been different lately is that the battery has only been lasting about 30 minutes on a full charge.

you could always try either repairing the OS or doing a complete reinstall.
