My mom picked up a Toshiba Tecra 8100 at a garage sale (bad idea!) and asked me to fix it up, stating it worked (didn't).
I switched the 64MB of RAM from slot A to slot B and now it boots up just fine. Everything works except the LCD. I plugged in an external monitor and everything is fine. I checked the BIOS to see if there was some software reason for the display not working but everything was set correctly, I've tried cycling through the 'monitor select' buttons (Ctrl + F5) and that only turns on and off the external monitor.
I should mention, the very first time I booted up, the 'Toshiba' sign flashed across the display with a CMOS error message. I shut it down and pulled the main battery and every since, the display has been entirely dead (not even a faint display).
An advice on how to proceed? Could it be a loose video card or cable? I don't mind opening up the machine since it only cost $1.
Thanks,
