I had the dc jack replaced on a hp ze1115 recently and when I started it, it gives me the windows won't start due to software or hardware screen. I tried the last known configuration option, but it shuts down after a few seconds. It does show a WindowsXP screen, the cooling fan comes on the computer shuts down. Any ideas? Thanks.

I would guess filesystem corruption(since no hardware changes, right?)
Try this:
(it will not hurt anything if its not the filesystem)
Boot from the XP CD.
Choose repair with recovery console
log into windows installation
type "chkdsk /r" (without the quotes, obviously)
If that doesn't help, try an "in-place" repair of the OS
Boot from XP CD
choose the SECOND repair option(when it lists the installed operating systems, hit 'r')
