I just got a new hard drive ( old one is dead) and i can't get os to boot. I am trying to boot linux and it freees midway and will not continue. I tried booting live version and it freezes in also. it's on a laptop and bios recognizes new hard drive. i checked the ram and cpu and both are seated correctly but can't tell if they are bad. could this be caused by a bad usb port because that is where it freezes when trying to boot live version. Any suggegstions?

This new HDD needs to be set up for linux, this uses a different file system from windows, I suggest you use the cd that came with the HDD and set it up for use with an operating system
