I have windows xp sp2 and norton antivirus 2005 and the virus definitions are fully updated.

Starting last week, Norton pop up boxes have come up saying it detected "backdoor.trojan" in the file " C:\Documents and Settings\Jason Richman\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\V01S1H8Y\cao[1].exe " and that it couldnt repair it. Then it says it can't quarantine it and than says it cant delete it.

When I run a virus scan in normal and even safe mode, norton doesn't even detect anything. But when I go into nortons "activity log" it lists this file as a backdoor.trojan every time i boot the computer. Ive even turned of sytem restore, manually found the file and deleted it myself, but it always comes back new everytime I boot the computer up.

Since this first happened a week ago, my computer has been acting weird such as: Every time I booted the computer up, a "toshiba power saver properties" box would pop up 50 times in a row and wouldnt stop until I finally disabled it from the startup menu. Also, the windows clock on my taskbar is always wrong and no balloon tips pop up anymore. Lastly, the computer would not let me show "hidden files" until I figured out how to change this in the registry.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a feeling I may regret this, but...

or here.. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free
-Install it and UPDATE it.
Start AVG a-s 7.5;
-under Scanner/ Settings please change the default action from Recommended Actions to QUARANTINE, and run the complete system scan.
-press Apply all Actions and Save the log file. Post the log file.

=start HijackThis by dclicking the .exe; now close ALL other applications and any open windows including the explorer window containing HijackThis.
-click the Scan and Save a Logfile button. Post the log here.

I ran avg antispyware 7.5. It only found 24 "tracking cookies" and nothing else. Sorry I didn't see a log to display for some reason.

Here is the highjack this log:

I got same trojan. Here's what I did to clear it up:

run Prevx CSI Free PC Check (www.prevx.com). this will tell you what files are infeceted. there should be at least one .dll file, a hidden .exe file, and then the k119...exe files as decscribed here: http://spywarefiles.prevx.com/RRFJJH044148583/K11989453621.EXE.html. write down the file name of all infected files.

reboot your computer to safe mode

open regedit and do a search for the file name (leave out .exe). write down the reg folder that the hidden .exe file belongs to. do a search for the reg folder and delete all instances of it. somtimes you won't be able. i think because trojan installed as a device. skip those and delete what reg folders you can.

delete the files Prevx CSI found. most are located in C:\windows\system32. i used the windows command line to find and delete. use "dir /H" to find hidden files. use "del /A:H file_name" to delete hidden files.

also infected are hidden auto.exe and autorun.inf files located in the root of your drives. delete those using command line as well.

the trojan is able to hop drives. so don't plug your flash drive or external drive into the machine you just cleaned. if you can plug the external drives into a Vista machine and search for the hidden auto.exe and autorun.inf. Vista
security normally asks you if you want to run auto.exe (XP doesn't) so prevents infection. just make sure you don't run auto.exe.

so far looks like the computer is cleaned up. hidden files haven't reappeared and no longer getting that symantec aleart about cao[1].exe.
