iSpyNOW and other malware

I have a computer that has recently become infected with iSpynow, and most likely other malware.

Windows Firewall is deactivated, and opening any icons on the desktop sometimes causes multiple programs and folders to open. Many programs say they can't connect to the internet. Almost all sites in Firefox 3 are unavailable, and any search produces links to go.google. Randomly, multiple instances of Firefox appear at once and close immediately.

I have access to another computer, and was able to run ATF-cleaner. I installed Malwarebytes after renaming the installer, but when I run it, nothing happens. I could not install Hijackthis, and none of the online scanners worked.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Note: I am posting this before I go to sleep, and have school in the morning. I'll be back in the afternoon.

Unhide all your system files in folder options then do a system wide search for all files starting with TDSSserv or TDSS**** and delete them all.
Rename hijackthis and try running it.

You can also try renaming the applications before saving them to your pc from the popup window that asks where you want to save it.

Am happy that u said ur using WINXP, what to do now is to install another OS on the same partition u install the old OS after that try to repair all the application u r using B4.

NOTE: The New and the Old OS will be sharing tha same Program Files Folder that is why u wiil have to repair all the application.

Have a nice using ur PCCCC.

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SVCHOST.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

Search for...

ALCMTR.EXE

...using "Start | Search...".

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following: Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.
Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE You must rename combofix BEFORE saving it to your pc.

You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Physically disconnect from the internet.
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Did you edit that combofix log? There are a few lines missing that ought to be there, just above the warning regarding the recovery console.

Hey man am realy sorry for not reading and understanding your post very well but i still have something for you. Download Easycleaner, its a free system cleaner. Install it, then you can scan your registry, startup program, also remove program from your system and some other, may be that will work because it clean mine for me Please try it thanks.

No... I haven't edited anything in the ComboFix log.

As far as I can tell, functionality has returned. My programs can connect to the internet, pages in Firefox load, and results from a search engine are normal.

Though, I received an error saying, "~.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Is there any final cleanup I should do? Thanks for all of your help.

Hello,

OK, well there are a few things you can do.

Download CCleaner and run it, and then should clear up a few things.

Then, Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
