I have a Dell E510 desktop running Windows XP and recently got the WinPC virus. I googled the virus and came across directions for removing it with malwarebytes. The computer was freezing around 10 seconds after startup, but will operate fine in safe mode. All malware/virus scan/spyware software shows the computer to now be clean of the viruses. The problem is that the computer is still freezing after a normal boot up. There isn't anything on the hard drive, all photos etc. are on an external hard drive. I do not have any start up disks for the computer or windows though. If I format will I lose the operating system? What about system restore, would it go back the way it was when I bought it? There are a couple options after pressing F8 during start up, one being "last working configuration". There is also a pop up window after a safe mode boot that says click "yes" to run in safe mode or "no" to restore to previous configuration. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
