Lost my A/drive

After my computer crashed, I discovered I lost my A/drive.??
I should say it almost crashed, I rebooted into safe mode and ran all my spyware remover programs, and restored screen saver etc.
Yet some things were rearranged or missing, also A/drive, which does not seem possible, but no matter what, I cannot find it.
I did get rid of whatever attacked my computer, and it is running ok now.
Is there a program that restores and fixes hardware?
I have windows professional 2000 , also tried to run the motherboard disk again, but I don't know what I am doing.

Have you tried going into the Hardware Wizard and check the add/troubleshoot a device?

yes, it seems to have the memory of the A/drive, as it reads that it is healthy, yet I cannot find it, nor can I use a floppy.

do you know if this would occur by a hit from a nasty..?
