Firefox and Internet Explorer Redirect Virus

Hello DaniWeb Community!

I'm currently working on a particularly troublesome problem with my mothers computer.

What happens is if I search for something (eg. "apples") through either firefox and google or internet explorer and bing, I am redirected to spam sites. It is getting incredibly annoying. In addition, a new window will pop up while I'm browsing legitamite sites that displays a spam page.

I have tried everything I could think of.

I ran Spybot, MalwareBytes (free), Adaware, Antivir, ESET Online Scanner, SUPERAntiSpyware, and I'm running Windows Defender as I speak.

The Operating System is Windows XP SP3, with the latest updates.

I have uninstalled Firefox, as I thought it was central to Firefox. However, just after doing this I found it also occured in IE.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

• You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
• Physically disconnect from the internet.
• Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.

Okay! I think it worked, but here is what you requested.

Also, when it found the virus, it had rebooted already, so Antivir was running and quarantined the file. Is this okay? I thought it would be, but I didn't think it would hurt to check.

Logs look good. If everything is ok, do the following;

• Click START then RUN
• Now type Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

  ComboFix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /, it needs to be there.

I'm having a similar problem on my laptop....everytime i go on google and search for something.....and then click on a link....it redirects me to other search engines or to spam websites.....should i run combofix too?
