Spyware/Trojan Horse??? Keeps on coming back!

Hello there, i have a really annoying problem (and maybe dangerous!)

Well as soon as i connect to the internet, Norton Antivirus pops up and tells me i have a virus but it is "unable to repair this file". I think that they are not real files because i look for them and they are not there. I also started to recieve Pop-ups when i searching in Google. Also my homepage keeps getting changed to "about:blank" So i thought i'd try and get some Spyware removal software, and this is what i ended up with!

Ad-Aware SE Personal
Hijack This
No-Adware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Doctor
XoftSpy

I've tried all these to delete the spyware which it does(some of the stuff i've found is called CoolWebSearch or CWS) but then it just "respawns" again out of nowhere, pretty damn annoying! :mad:

If you guys could help me it would be great, i know that i have to give you a list of something, but i don't exactly know what and how to do this??? Sorry hehe.

Any help would be great.

You have some entries there that need removing.

===============

Download CWShredder 2.15 from here. Run it and press the *fix,* not scan and allow it to clean the infection. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the fix button.

-

Download, unzip to your desktop About:Buster and run it, then:

1. Click "Update".
2. Click "Check For Update"

(If no new version is available, skip to step #4.)

3. Click "Download Update", and wait for it to be installed.

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here

4. Run "About:Buster" again and hit the 'Begin Removal' button.

(Wait for the initial ADS scan to complete.)

5. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE session currently open.

(Wait for the about:blank scan to complete.)

6. Click "Ok", to scan once more.
7. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE sessions currently open.
8. Click "Yes", to begin the second pass.

9. Click "Save log", and post this log back along with your new log.
10. Click "Exit".
11. Click "Exit".
12. "Reboot"..

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssn32.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

You have a few more entries there that need removing, then you should be fine.

Before manually editing the registry always back it up. On Windows ME and XP creating a Restore Point will do.
Click Start > Run > Type or copy & paste regedit. The registry editor will open.
Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete the "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender" and "Shopping Wizard" entries in the right hand pane.

OK, ive followed those instructions, but now if anyone can tell me what to do next that would be great. Do you want me to send a log file?

Hello! Thanks a lot for the instructions, everything seems to be working excellently now. Theres just one more thing, which spyware/adware removing software should i use? I have: Ad-Aware SE Personal, Noadware3, SpywareBlaster, Spyware Search and Destroy, and Xoftspy.

I'm pretty sure i dont need all of them, so if you tell me which ones to keep that would be kool.

Ah and is it right to still have the "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender" and "Shopping Wizard" showing on my Add or Remove Programs list? Before when i tried to delete them it took me to the website and told me to download something from there to uninstall it, so i did but it didnt work. So i dont really know what to do incase i get another virus!
