HI!!

Yesterday I switched over from Zone Alarm Firewall to Norton Internet Security 2004. The reason was that when ever I logged on to net, some messages popped up(see attachment - *.bmp format) every 5 minutes or so. Clearly these messages are not authentic and I realised at once that something is wrong. So i scanned for Sypware using Spybot and Ad-Aware but no sypware was found. I even did a through virus scan , but nothing showed up.

The problem is that these messages keep on popping up AND MOST IMPORTANTLY , i cant enable the INTRUSION DETECTION tool in the Norton Internet Security. Whenever i try to do so , a message pops up which says -
"Failed to save setting. Please verify that your Windows account is not restricted ". And i am sure the only user of my laptop and of course i am the adminstrator.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

PRAKHAR PRAKASH

That's some dirty spyware. I had something like that once and it took forever to get it off. I'll try to find out what tools I used and get back to you.

Download Ewido and install it. click "Update" and click "Start Update". After the update process, exit from Ewido.

Download CCleaner and install it.

Run CCleaner, click "Options" button and here go to "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours". Click OK to exit from the Options. click "Run Cleaner" and choose "Yes" to continue cleaning.

Run Ewido, click on the "Scanner" button in the left menu, then click on the "Start" button.
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. select "Clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.

also you can download AVG antivirus it is free and updates are free as well.
personally I think its better than norton and mcaffee it finds viruses that they don't.

Hi!!

I am trying what dvr advised to do and will report soon.

Well, EWIDO did detect Spyware.bingofun and removed it . But nothing has changed .
I still cant enable INTRUSION DETECTION in Norton internet Security and those messages keep on popping up every minute or so.

What should I do now ???

One major development took place. INTRUSION DETECTION automatically activated on rebooting after i removed that spyware using EWIDO.

Hi!!
I dont know how to read HijackThis logs so i have posted mine here -

Any help is appreciated .

That HJT log doesn't really tell us much.

Download and run Silent Runners.vbs -- http://www.silentrunners.org/. Post the information from the log it generates in your next reply.

Right-click in an open area of your desktop and select New, Folder; give the new folder a name (something like HJT or HijackThis), and then drag the hijackthis.exe icon that is on your desktop into this new folder.

Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...rch/search.html
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {88D969C0-F192-11D4-A65F-0040963251E5} (XML DOM Document 4.0) - file://C:\TempEI4\EI40_\msxml4.cab
O16 - DPF: {C2FCEF52-ACE9-11D3-BEBD-00105AA9B6AE} (Symantec RuFSI Registry Information Class) - http://security.symantec.com/SSC/SharedContent/common/bin/cabsa.cab

Close any open windows, other then HijackThis, and hit Fix checked.

Reboot, close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log along with the SilentRunners log.

Hi!!!
