Hi my name is Tom. I have a p.c. for about 6 years now with Windows Me. I am relativley a layperson regarding knowledge of ccomputer technology. i can use html. that's about as advanced as i can go! ;)

I don't have home internet anymore! I use cyber cafes fordownloading info, websearches, games , news, e-mail etc.

I recently bought a new USB memory card stick for these purposes! After a week of using my new card my p.c. @ home became infected! I lost all control of my folder options! i can't access them now!

It just says 'Synchronise'!

The more i learn about technology the more aware i am of my ignorance of it! :) I joined this site hopeing to learn nore than the bare bone basics of mouse and keyboard! :) i am thirsty for knowledge and hungry for wisdom! :)

I can't even access my Registry Editor itself now!!!

"Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator."
is all i keep getting!

I think this is some cyber cafe programme that i must have picked up that spread onto my computer @ home through using the memory stick????

I have Spybot S+D. I upgraded and have latest version! It doesn't find anything! I tried registry mechanic! it doesn't help!

! i also hve many old games I can't uninstall now! This is driving me crazy as my 40G.B. Hard drive is low on disk space!
Well I got my USB card cleaned @ cafe!

I had 35 different viruses and trojans on it! i can't believe this! No such thing as privacy on computers now! ??? ;)
In my humble opinion Microsofts lack of security has alot to answer for! :)

Avast! Anti-Virus has cleaned up some problems such as start-up loaders i had!

But not the missing Folder Options!

Anyway! I need help! Please! :)

Any help or advice on what to do would be greatfully appreciated!

i'm sure there's some computer geniuses or whizkids out there who will love the challenge of solving this conundrum!?

What's causing all the problems! ????? :)

Here's my Hijack This! Log File included!

Please Boot into safe mode:

  • Restart the computer.
  • Just after the POST diagnostics and memory count, start pressing the F8 key
  • On the Startup Menu, choose Safe Mode

Then preform a search for the following file. winmain.exe. Delete any instance found.

Empty Recycle Bin!

Then post a new HJT log

Wow! A response already! cool! :))))))))))
Thanx a million! i'll try that as oon as i get home!

cheers! dude! :)))))))))))))))

I will be waiting :).

O.k. Here goes! :P :)
The first time i restarted I couldn't access Safe Mode! but I searched and found 'winmain.exe' in Windows folder. I deleted it. I repeated restart again and second time i accessed Safe Mode like you said. I searched for winmain.exe and ther was none found! :) Does it matter that safe mode was accessed only on the second time??????
