Ok I am new to all this so please be gentle.What is hijackthis and how does it help to know where a virus is? I did Avast antivirus and got a virus win32:lineage-197. What is it? and is it safe to delete?

HJT is a tool used to scan your computer's current state. It tells us what programs your have running and helps us remove malicious items.

Download HiJackThis from here.

Make a new folder called HJT in the C: directory(C:\HJT) Extract the zip contents to that folder. Run HJT and select the scan option. After it finishes scanning there should be a save log button. Once clicked it should open up a notepad file with the log. Copy and Paste the contents of the note pad file in your next reply.

Yes it is safe to delete. You dont have anything that worrys me in your log but do the following. Run HJT and check the following.
O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1
Close all other windows and click fix checked.

ok i did what you said.I did another hjt and i checked the O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1 then i got an error that said: an unexpected error has occured at procedure: modmain_fixotheroneitem(sltem=01-hosts:local127.0.0.1

Ok rename HiJackThis.exe to something different like scanner.exe then try again. Also post a new log from after you change the name.

Yup and also do the following.

Please download and install ewido anti-spyware tool

• Close all other Applications Select language click Ok
• Click I Agree
• Click next
• Click Install
• Click Finish
• Wait Ewido will open main screen automatically.
• Wait again a few minutes and Ewido Should Auto update itself. If it doesn't click update at top of screen.
• This in very important to get updates
• When updating has finished. Close Ewido.

If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

• Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear use arrow up to highlight
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.
• For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site: HERE

  You MUST manage to get into Safe Mode for the fix to work.

Make sure to close all open windows/programs/folders. Have nothing else open while ewido performs its scan!

• Open Ewido
• Click on scanner top of Ewido sceen
• Click on Settings
• Under How to Act click on Recommended Action choose Quarantine
• Under How to scan all boxes should be selected
• Under Possibly unwanted software all boxes should be selected
• On right side under Reports: click on Automatically generate report after every scan.
• Under What to scan select scan every file
• Click On scan Tab
• Click on Complete system scan
• Let the program scan the machine It can take awhile give it time.
• When scan has finished At bottom of screen click Apply all Actions
• Click Save report
• Click Save Report as (Save as window's screen should pop up.)
• Click desktop
• Click Save
• Exit ewido

Reboot back to normal mode

Post the Ewido and a new HJT log after you do the Ewido scan.

That most likely indicates that the hosts file has its "read-only" attribute set, meaning that HijackThis cannot make changes to the file.

The hosts file is located in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc folder, and is a plain text file which can be viewed by opening it with Windows Notepad. The "localhost 127.0.0.1" entry in a hosts file is perfectly normal, but if your hosts file contains other lines below the localhost entry, they could be the work of malware.

Have a look at the contents of your hosts file:

Open Windows' Notepad utility. In Notepad:
* Click on the "File" menu option.

* In the "Look in:" drop-down menu box, navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc folder.
* Double-click on the file named "hosts".

Its a HOSTS file and you could leave it one your computer so just run ewido and post the log.

Thanks for the info.I did what you typed here and all the file said was
localhost 127.0.0.1
That was all there was in the file.SO i guess now all is ok and i can leave it alone.I don't want to crash my puter.LOL
