Hello and thanks to anyone who finds time to respond. I need an expert opinion. This is my last stop:
My husband recently started ripping DVDs on my laptop. Worked great for awhile, but it eventually slowed everything down to a near standstill. Now I'm constantly dealing with long hang times and nonresponding programs. Here's what I've done to try and correct the problem:
Removed offending DVD burning program and a few other extra programs;
Ran virus Scans including MCAfee, Panda and blbeta;
Also ran Registry Mechanic, Registry Patrol and Spyware Doctor;
Did a general Disk Cleanup and defraged.
I'm not sure if I've eliminated something I wasn't supposed to (registry-wise) or if there is just a lot more that needs to be cleaned up.
Anyone have any suggestions? I realize the number of processes running is probably obscene to those in the know. I'd be happy to eliminate anything I don't need, but I'm afraid of screwing things up worse. Fire away-I can take it! All I really use this particular computer for is word processing, storing photos and Internet.
