Hello,
I have a new computer that was set up and given to me by a local business. I think I made a big mistake in leaving the firewall and antivirus settings as they were. Within the first week, I noticed that the windows firewall would suddenly pop off. It had to be re-started manually. Suspicions caused me to install my copy of bitdefender, which subsequently found some nasty stuff. The only things I found for hechta or hechta.a are in Russian or Thai. Very helpful, possibly, but I wouldn't know. If anybody has an idea, I'm listening. Also, I am wondering if I should disable iis until this is fixed. Nothing depends on it yet.
Here are the bitdefender, avg and hijackthis logs.

Have exactly the same ones on my hp pav d4650y with vista. I am only owner. I can only find them with BD10 but cannot remove. I tried by stopping recovery option and no good either.

I will keep trying and hope someone here can help.
Teresa

Terasad please do not "piggyback" off other people's threads. Please start a new one. Thx

And now onto the HJT log. I don't see anything malicious in this log which is a little weird. A couple questions though. First what is the D:\ drive is it a main drive for the company or a secondary drive on the computer. Also most of the stuff seem to be in the temp folders. There a great program called CCleaner that will clean the temp very nicely.

Begin by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Next, after following all of these steps, you're ready to scan. Run scans in both the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues'. Note: It might take several scans in each to remove all of the junk.

Try that and see what happens. Also after you ran the scans did the problems persist or get better? Also window's firewall isn't really that good of a firewall i would get an anti-virus/firewall combo like AVG anit-virus or McAfee.

Hi again,
Thanks for the advice. I use ccleaner regularly but was getting lots and lots of temporary stuff - it seemed to pile up faster than usual, and the extra start page keys kept coming back. I cleaned again (took 2 times) specifying the locations in the custom area. There was no improvement, and my Bitdefender firewall became possessed and kept setting the slider to "allow all", then started "failing to initialize", and finally disappeared altogether from the Bitdefender panel. I couldn't scan - it got to a point and shut everything down. Then the anti-virus started shutting off, so I uninstalled it. The AVG scan then worked & found Hijacker.small, and I got a trial of Kaspersky which found a bunch of "invaders", whatever they are. The latest Kas-scan came out clean and the computer is humming along and not acting up at all. So I think it is fixed. The scans follow. (Not the Kas-scan though; it is huge.)
By the way, the D drive is a FAT partition with restore and a bunch of the "Media Center" games and stuff on it. It is all locked up. I guess that the hardware guy who set it up thinks that I will spend my time playing games...Gee...
